EC 53 is located in Serpens Main at R.A. = 18:29:51.2, Dec. = 01:16:39.5. This image is a co-add of all 850 micron Serpens Main observations obtained by the Transient Survey. These observations were taken using the Submillimetre Common User Bolometer Array 2 (SCUBA-2) at the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT).
The 850 micron light curve of EC 53 obtained by the Submillimetre COmmon User Bolometer Array 2 (SCUBA-2) at the JCMT. The dashed lines show the x-axis boundaries for the infrared data presented below. For more information about the Transient Survey and how this light curve was generated, see Herczeg et al. 2017, ApJ: 849:43, Mairs et al. 2017, ApJ: 843:55, and Johnstone et al. 2018, ApJ: 854:31.
H band (green squares) and K band (red circles) magnitudes of EC 53 over ~100 days showing a clear rise in flux. The H-band flux is measured in a large aperture which includes a significant fraction of the flux from the nebula.
